Yeah I know...I have a love/hate relationship with my digital. If I had a proper scanner, I'd scan the ones I did in the darkroom last semester.

to me, digital photography isn't real "art". it's just changing settings [if you decide to even shoot in manual], pressing a button, taking the picture as many times as you want until you like it, and then photoshopping the heck out of it. i don't get it.

Digital and Film are just tools. Just because you use digital doesnt mean you're going to get great pictures, it still takes what the photography has in mind. same thing with film. I use both by the way and film is lot more fun. I love to dodge and burn my own pictures and ,weirdly enough, i even enjoy spotting my photos.

well, with a lot of "photographers" now, it's just a teenager with a 2,000 dollar camera their parents bought and a lot of photoshop. there's nothing tangible about it. it's all just a computer file. if you press "delete" and didn't back your file up, you'll never see it again. i don't know, i am just an analog geek. i only buy records and tapes, analog guitar pedals, analog photography, etc etc.

i've never taken a class and hardly know anything "technical" about it. anything i know it's from experience. same goes with my guitar playing. i always hated the idea of lessons or classes for things i'm passionate about and would rather teach myself and learn from experience. thus far, it's working out great.

I've totally been that way myself about music...learning the technicalities seems to ruin the creative bit of it for me, so I stopped. For some reason learning the technicalities of photography didn't ruin it for me though. I think I can credit my professor for that...he's the greatest. He just told us what we needed to know as quick as he could and then let us have at it. It was really cool. Then again, you can't expect that from everyone. I can still see what you mean, and it makes a lot of sense especially when it works out. Cheers

I also did this personal art project thing during my senior year in high school. Basically I took portraits of all my close friends from high school, developed an 8x10" print, and had them autograph it so I could remember them for decades to come. That was probably one of the biggest things I did, aside from an actual academic senior project. have a look, if you'd like :] ucsd.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2092733&l=2e03b&id=3325300
