i would say just go to any music store, or even somewhere like best buy, and see what they have in the amount you want to spend. don't be afraid to try out stuff, even if you don't know how to play.

it sounds delicious! i've never actually played the russian, so i can't compare them. i know that explosions in the sky uses the same one i have. i can make it go from a hugeee thick sound, to a synthy lead sound, and even can get a good vintage bluesy sound.

what amp/s and guitar/s do you use? i've owned my fair share of gain pedals . you should check out the visual sound jekyll and hyde. it has the original ts-808 chip [the old original sexy sounding tubescreamers] on one side and then it has a distortion sound on the other which can go from slight gain to huge. i like the jekyll and hyde's tubescreamer clone because it not only has a tone knob, but it has a bass boost switch. great for leads.

hm, i'm surprised you didn't like the tubescreamer with a tele and fender. what kind of sound are you looking for? what bands'/guitarists' tone do you like?
