This is just an idea that I had. I feel like anyone could easily write a book on any given EITS song. So I thought, "Why not share our thoughts on each and every song." Maybe we can get some questions that have irked our brains answered or find some common emotions and interpretations with other people. But mainly, it might just be nice to put our feelings out there. Maybe the band members will even have some input. Personally, I don't think there is any music more heartfully thought-provoking and emotion-stirring than explosion's, so their music deserves a thread like this.
I believe this is the most active EITS message board around, so hopefully this turns out to be a success. What I was thinking was, we'd go through each album and its tracks in chronological order. I guess we'll have a separate thread for each song. And we'll move onto the next song semi-weekly, or whenever conversation runs dry (if this even takes off the ground at all).
Well, what do you guys think? Meanwhile, I'll start the thread on the first song, A Song For Our Fathers, off of "How Strange, Innocence"

I think it's kind of hard to discuss art, like you're analyzing it or something. It's almost like pulling it apart, but it's too delicate, like snowflakes.

I think this is a great idea actually. Let me know when you get to "With tired eyes, tired minds, and tired souls we slep". I could write you an entire novel just based on that song.

the trouble is, kemosabi, that art is subjective. this doesn't mean that their music cannot be interpreted because it can. the thing about their music is-at least for me-it's each and every persons "personal" film score. their music has the capacity to capture the greatness and tragedy of life. it seems that a piece by eits may contain all the phenomenological currents of a moment or a lifetime.
few reviews do justice to a band like eits, though. they try to analyze and dissect something that needs to be experienced.
the thing with eits is that they explain more with the absence of words than so many bands that have so many clever lyrics, but really don't say anything. i think that sometimes the moment you name something, you effectively kill it.
words are merely fingers pointing at the moon. you try to show someone the moon by pointing at it, but instead some people may mistake the finger for the moon. this is partly why eits music elicits such a response with me, because their music causes me to think about life without words.
