But remember, the remix disc hasn't been leaked yet. I'm fairly anxious to hear that part, so I'm definitely going to try and get my hands on the special edition.

Mixed feelings about it. It's probably their least succesful effort until now, though one has to keep in mind their previous work has set the bar on a very high level. The album starts pretty slow, 'the birth and death of the day' has it's moments, though those moments won't come until minute 4 or so and 'welcome, ghosts' must be by far the most bland song they ever made. I wonder why they released that as a promotional track, it doesn't really do justice to the rest of the album. Fortunately, things start to get better after that. 'It's natural to be afraid' probably has to many ideas put into it (despite it's 13,5 minutes) but at it's best moments it shows the great potential this group has. However, as was the case with 'how strange, innocence' (and probably TEINACDP as well) the last two tracks are by far the best on the album. Especially the haunting piano-accompanied finisher 'so long, lonesome'. Just my 2 cents. Of course, I'm going to buy it as well.

Its interesting the differing opionions of the new album. I think its their best (although it tokk me about 10 days of listening to it until I came to that conclusion). The previous poster mentioned that he found The Birth and Death of the Day and Welcome, Ghosts to be bland. I couldn't disagree more. These are the two songs on the record that excite me the most (the first two minutes is the most insane thing i've ever heard and the next two minutes are so damn catchy). This whole record just sounds so much more alive to me than anything else they've done. Like it is a living, breathing entity. I also honestly think there is so much more going on with this record. Everytime I listen to it something else pops out. To me that is the sign of a classic.
Happy New Year, everyone!

Q: What do you think would happen if EITS signed to a major label (ala Sigur Ros with Geffen Records)? Does their sound get better or worse? Do you ever see this happening?

Oh no no. Being signed to a major label ruins everything.

Oh no no. Being signed to a major label ruins everything. I agree. The record label might pressure or demand EITS to create more albums, thus leading to lower quality or poorly written songs as a result of not being able to work at their own pace.

well, they nearly split up over the pressure of delivering this album, so any extra stress could be detrimental. they're not a band who actively seek fame and glory, and are more interested in producing great albums. yet conversely, they might sign to a major label one day for financial security (which was behind them letting chrysler use clips for their adverts). at the end of the day, they have lives and families to sustain, and going on long tours cost money. especially if their albums dont sell a lot (would i be wrong to presume in america they're stilla cult band). in britain im forever telling people to listen to them, and in the last year or so more people that i speak to already know them, and in some cases are huge fans
bit of a ramble, but thats what i think

I actually think they've moved beyond cult status in the US. Any show they play seems to sell out well in advance (they sold out three nights at the Bowery in NYC and that place holds probably 700 people...multiply that by three nights and thats 2100 people...at least a month before the shows and that was over a year ago). They are not Coldplay or anything but I think they are pretty big at this point.
Happy New Year.

i've refrained from downloading aoasime. it's not so much a moral choice as it is this: i've never anticipated the release of an album so much as this one. i remember hearing them for the first time on the radio several years ago. i was driving in austin on the 183 upper deck and had chills on a sunny day. i had no idea who they were but i knew i needed to find out. i downloaded all the songs i could find from them. of course i bought all of their albums at shows later on. but here's the deal: i want to listen to the songs in succession as the band intended it to be. it will be a ritual. i'll open the disk, hopefully on febuary 20th. i'll light candles at home, close my eyes, and listen. then i will follow it with the bonus disc of mixes. the anticipation is like foreplay. . .the rise before the fall ad infinitum.

I like that. That's really neat.
