Howdy. New here. Loved EITS for years but have never had a chance to see them live. Basically, the subject says it all: from experience, do EITS tickets usually sell out before the night of the show? I ask because I've usually had no problems buying tickets for popular "indie" bands the same night, and don't want to get stuck paying "convenience" and shipping fees if I don't have to, as they really add up and I'm another poor college student.
Maybe their fanbase is quite different from others, but from what I've seen, most "indie kids" (yes, I use stereotypes a lot) seem to just show up and get in; in fact, I'm usually one of the only ones using will call.
Anyway, any advice appreciated. Absolutely can't wait for this show in Denver. And yeah, I really missed a great opportunity; back in the day ('98 or so), they sent an email asking for a basement to sleep in on their way through Denver, and I should've asked my mom, but instead wimped out ;D

eits shows have been selling out in advance since around 2004 or so, depending on where you are. some obviously are more likely to sell out than others. as far as denver goes, i don't think you're 98 or so is right because they didn't become 'explosions in the sky' until 99 and didn't play shows outside of texas until later (if i remember correctly one of the news blurbs on the old site was referring to playing their first show outside texas). i know they played denver, but i honestly don't know exactly when, but my guess would be 2001.
if you have the money, i wouldn't wait too terribly long on buying tickets. i don't think it's a "sell out in 15 minutes" kind of thing, but you probably know denver better than i do. i wouldn't personally worry about norfolk selling out, as most shows in norfolk don't sell out terribly far in advance, if they even do, but i'm sure NYC and philly will sell out quite a ways before the shows -- they have in recent history. but also keep in mind this is most people's first opportunity to see them in denver.

Yeah, you're absolutely right. And I may be a bit hazy on the exact date they came through Denver; they may not even have been playing a show that year, even just passing through. I remember them on the GYBE! mailing list and sending out a request for a place to stay around 98-99 or thereabouts. At the time, I had downloaded a few of their songs as comparison to GYBE! (possibly even at their own appeal on the list), and enjoyed them, but I was a typical awkward socially-inept teenager who basically lived in near isolation. But yeah, it would've been good memories. I'm absolutely going to buy the tickets now; they rarely come around these parts and so what if I'm paying an extra $11.50. It's awfully lame they don't even offer will call and charge an extra $6.50 to mail, but it's worth it. If they're half as good as on record and in live videos I've seen, it's not something to miss. Then again, when Ticketmaster opens ticketing in two days, they may offer a will call option... Like you said, they won't sell out in 15 minutes, so I may as well see if I can save a few bucks.

In Boston the shows sell out decently quick. I remember people paying like $100 for a $10 ticket. I wouldn't wait.
If you don't want to pay surcharges (no one does) go to their website. They have an account to buy presale tickets NOT through ticketmaster so you don't have to pay surcharges.

The Astoria show still has tickets available... I'm currently trying to convince anyone with a heartbeat to attend, espcially bearing in mind the news ('calling it a day for a while' after the may shows) I cannot express how I felt when my friend Ciaran, who plays in major-influenced-by-explosions-in-the-sky band called (wait for it) 'Codes in the clouds' (ha!) told me last night. I felt almost suicidal. So, London Astoria - you are still alright. I'll be there, front row, as always, with my Mini-Disc player. Martin. First post - a good one! A good year...
