i have been lucky enough to see them play three times, and they have never played an encore... i really appreciate this fact, it is quite a bold move in our culture to have the balls not to play an encore when it is totally expected at every show...
the latest time i caught them was at the wonder ballroom, they put on a fantastic sold out show... played for about 80 minutes or so (the first two times i saw them they played for under an hour) and people were doing the same ole cry for an encore, then munaf came out and threw chocolate bars to the crowd and pretty much got boo'd, i think that is really lame that people would boo them for rocking to the point of passing out and then boo'ing when they choose to challenge the norm of rock concerts these days by not playing encores... thats my food for thought.

Agreed. While i've not been so fortunate as to see Explosions live yet, from the videos i've seen they really put 110% into every show. That alone is really what people go to gigs for, and they should be appreciative of it. I can understand some people being disappointed because they'd waited around for an encore that never came, but to go as far as booing a band that has spent over an hour performing for them, the least they could do is be polite about it.

I agree. HOWEVER. I saw them this past September in Fort Worth.. and there is a "curfew" out there. LONG story short.. Explosions played for about 20 minutes. PLUS the tickets were $70.. so, an encore would have been nice.

That situation was completely out of their control. There was a curfew for that show, they were supposed to play a set that lasted an hour, but due to events that occurred previously during the day they were only allowed to play 20 minutes.

Yeah I saw them in San Francisco this year for my first time. They didn't play an encore but these dudes played for like over an hour. Munaf came back out and told everyone that they were done and they did their best. I was upset at first, but I mean, its Explosions. I was satisfied with their set. I didn't care they didn't play one they were still fucking good.

That's good to know, that they don't do encores. I saw them this past tuesday (4/8) in New York, and they were wonderful. It just didn't seem right to stop clapping at the end. They were that good. Plus they never really stopped playing throughout the whole set, not for patter, nor introductions, nor song breaks. The show was like one big song in 12 (or so) discrete parts. Anyway, I hoped they didn't feel bad for having to refuse an encore, but now I see it's just their way.

Encores don't make sense for EitS. most of their stuff is climatic to up in an encore
