I gotta be honest, I was majorly dissappointed they didn't do an encore. I know they said they were 'tired', but just plan it out ahead of time, you know? I feel like they were playing to the price of the ticket ($10), an hour set with no encore? And Paper Chase isn't exactly pleasing to the ears.
Don't get me wrong, I love Explosions, but they obviously didn't want to be there, I mean they got a full club with 500 enthusiastic fans, and they play an hour and peace out with no encore?

Explosions played their guts out and I felt I got waaaaay more than my money's worth. Besides, it's a fairly well-known fact that EITS don't do encores! They didn't perform a single encore on their recent European leg of the tour. It's such a silly concept anyway; the band leaves the stage with all the spotlights on and comes back five minutes later. Everyone does it--it's just so contrived and phony. I DO agree with you comment on The Paper Chase. Horrible music, IMHO. Eluvium was much more to my liking. Bob K.

PC should have gone on first., that way Eluvium could bave blended into the EITS set. knew there wouldnt be an encore, didn't care. the club usually closes at midnight anyway. set was about 1hr 15 min. anyone catch the setlist or get a recording. picts?

If you think about this way you only paid $3.33 (ish) to see Explosions, since you got to see Paper Chase and Eluvium. I was sad they didn't do an encore but I expected it. The show was still energetic and amazing nonetheless.

I hear ya, enigmatic. Paper Chase should have opened. Too aggro and atonal to compliment Explosions' sound.
Eluvium was the musical equivalent of ripples of water morphing into rivers and finally into crashing tidal waves. Amazing what one person and and a few simple effects boxes can create. The video was an added bonus.
Paper Chase was simply jarring and disturbing.

yeah, i retract my comments from yesterday a bit. I was hoping for a little more Explosions but they were sick while they were on.
On the topic of Paper Chase, I actually felt bad for the lead singer. Whatever drugs he was on wasn't making him a better singer (or entertainer, mr. "I make weird hand motions and flip out for no apparent reason.").
The thing with PC is I really feel that some of their shit could be so sick, but when they reach their climaxes they go psychadelic instead of getting epic like Explosions does. That combined with changing the lead singer would make them a pretty sweet band.

Also, I'm just getting into the Post-rock scene (I saw Ratatat at the Paradise the week before this show, they were sick.), does anyone know of any good local bands that I might be able to see while waiting for these two guys to get back to Boston? I really don't think I can do any other 'regular' concerts now that I've heard these two groups, I'm of the opinion now that the only thing lyrics can do is mess up a song. Paper Chase confirmed this.
