"Have You Passed Through This Night?" Video

Hello...

So I've been an EIS fan for years and wasn't at all aware of these forums until a few hours ago, huh. Anyways:

I've always found EIS's music to be very inspiring visually, maybe because it lacks lyrics to tell me what to think of. And maybe it's because I grew up/live in the northwest, but those visuals inspired usually consist of terrain, beautiful and epic.

Anyways, I've been into filmmaking for a long time (and am currently studying it as a sophomore at MSU), so I decided to make a video for "Have You Passed Through This Night". Mainly because I've always found it particularly inspiring and also because, well, I had a lot of free time this past summer. So I worked up an interpretation, shot by shot, and filmed over the course of 3 months.


Before I post the link, I just want to say... I've been a member of enough forums to know how obnoxious it is when people come into my community to basically advertise. So I apologize if I come off that way, but spamming the comments of other Youtube EIS videos and/or the band Myspace is pretty rude, so... Figured I'd show a forum. I'm proud of this video, and I'm really curious what other EIS fans would say about it (given that I don't know hardly any personally). So, with that out of the way:

Hope at least some of you enjoy. Always happy to have comment/ratings of the video over there... And I love constructive criticism (you know, not just "this sux, lolz" crap), so any specific thoughts on what I may have done better are appreciated.

Wow, great job!
You live in a wonderful area.
I honestly love the part at 4:20.
It really adds to the intensity in that moment.
Therefore I also kind of dislike the normal shots in there.
Those seem to "break" the concept of that part. I would've liked to see other shots in there, yes, but also with some sort of effect, so those shots don't kill the "drive" and feel.
I hope you can make something of my non-professional terms
All in all I really liked the video. it's looks very professional and it's way better than most of the self-made video's I have seen. Even better than some pro-video's.
Please post any new video's if you will ever make them! =)

Yeah, that section was kind of a challenge. I originally just wanted the city going by, but when I had just that cut in it became dull. The point I was going for with that whole section was to show how man is overthrowing nature (the flower overshadowed by a powerline, a radio tower intruding into peaceful green landscape, a beautiful open field cut in half by a road), which complimented a cityscape with bright lights.

But I see what you mean- I think I've kind of convinced myself it works after spending so much time editing, so maybe it doesn't.

Some real beautiful stills of nature. Were those graves real? What a majestic place to be buried! I couldn't really agree with the whole man in the vacant street at night scenes. Just seemed to cross the line of naturalness... or something. By MSU, do you mean Michigan State University? Or is there another MSU in the Northwest. I'm just wondering, because I myself studied film at Michigan State.

Yep, the graves were real- it's a really beautiful cemetery. There's another one a little ways out of town that probably even more so (sits on a lake with mountains behind it), but it's private and I didn't want to bother anyone...

And by MSU I meant Montana State University. Yeah, the acronym works fine here but I forgot it tends to confuse anyone not living in the state, ha.
